The Man Who Would Not Lead His Family

Saturday, April 26th, 2008

By Angie Lewis My husband wont lead the family in bible study or prayer. He wont even discipline the children. What can I do? Is your husband a Christian? Oh, yes. She replied. Have you talked with your husband about how you feel? Yes, I have told him until I am blue in the face about his lack of support in the home. Well, thats the problem. Youre telling him what he should do rather than allowing him to appreciate what his God-given responsibilities are. When a wife is bossy or naggy with her husband it makes him feel like a child. But he isnt married to his mother. You should allow your husband to lead in the way that is most comfortable for him; let him feel in control by letting him be in control What if my husband doesnt want to participate in his God-given responsibilities in the home? You said he was a Christian, right? He needs to know that he can trust you. A wife is a husbands right arm, not both arms. A man needs to feel accepted in his humility before God. Dont try and undermine or control him. Maybe he has never spiritually led the home before because you have always done it for him. Your husband wants to be taken seriously. He knows what his responsibilities are. Let him meditate on those things without speculation and interference from you. What about the children? She asked me. I have two rebellious teenagers who need their fathers discipline and protection. Someone needs to counsel them. Youre right about that. Your children are at an age where others can easily influence them. And of course, you want to impress on them the grace, mercy and love of Christ. So right now, you will need to counsel your children about the big bad world out there. I dont know if they will listen to me. She said. Stay focused in your prayers on what God can do for you and your family. Stay faithful and believe that God does hear your prayers and will answer them in His way. He will not allow anything to happen to your children that they themselves cannot handle on their own. God will answer your prayers because you are His child and He loves you. I will try and do what you have told me. She replied. Keep praying for your husband everyday. It could be that your husband has repressed his spiritual influence in the home for some reason. If that is the case, he needs reassurance from you about his headship position. I would encourage you to be humble, compassionate and submissive with him as he tries to listen to what God is asking him to do. Your husband will find his true calling. But he wont if you boss him around or if you treat him like a child. True calling? A Christian husbands true calling is to lead his family in the wisdom and knowledge of God. Everything else is secondary, even his career. Whats the use being a Christian if you arent going to share what you know with your family and teach them to follow in the ways of the Lord? Christians are to serve others by helping them to see the kingdom of God here and now. Christians have been given spiritual gifts and we are to use those gifts for the glory of God. What if a man isnt married and doesnt have any children? She asked curiously. If he is a Christian, then he is to lead others in Gods wisdom and knowledge in whatever serving capacity he has been given by God. But, what if he doesnt know what that capacity is? She asked. It may take some time for him to figure out what his spiritual gifts are, but a true Christian man will eventually come to find his place with God and serve according to what God has led him to do using those gifts. So are you saying that leading means to serve? She asked. Yes, exactly! That is what I am saying. You lead your family as a mother and wife every single day. When you discipline the children you are leading them to do what is right and good. When you respect and honor your husband and his position you are actually leading him to become the man of God he was meant to be. A wife is a leader in her own right Wow! I never thought about it like that before. She said in wonderment. Be Shepards of Gods flock that is under your care, serving as overseers not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money, but eager to serve, not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock. Religion Should Promote Unity and Not Diversity

Friday, April 25th, 2008

By Sharmila Sanka A common path of invisible thread to unite all the people belonging to the same community, customs and traditions worshipping one God is named as Religion. People of the same community shared the same traditions, customs, sentiments and feelings and the worship of God. So some of the responsible people wanted to lead them on to one path and they named this path RELIGION. In order to promote love for God and not to create any discrepancies the leaders of the religion encouraged the people to worship God. Who is God? God is the Creator of this Universe. He is super intelligent and does not need any present day technology to create or destroy any. He is omniscient and omni present. He occupies the hearts of His devotees. A true devotee is one who loves God and not love or fight in the name of God. God is great and His ways are inexplicable. So, we being human feel the necessity out of gratitude to bow to such a great being called God. When we worship Him, we are in fact worshipping and bowing to the divine qualities in him such as Selfless Love, Forbearance, Justice and Compassion. So we should always worship Him so that we are drenched in his divine qualities. God is only one but the names different religions attached to His being are different. So, different paths called religions arose in the name of devotion to God. The paths are different but the ultimate goal to reach the God is the same. Love for god is the same for any religion. When man is spiritual enough to worship God, why is he ignorant to realize the equality of divinity in all religions? Why does he fight in the name of religion? Will the Lord whom man worships and fights for, enjoys and takes happiness in these religious fights? Are we so ignorant and foolish to blame the Gods of other religions? Are they not one and the same? All religions are meant to promote love for God but never hatred towards others. No religion is great or to be blamed for reasons which are absolutely human. For the society to live in peace and happiness, man needs to have Morality, Fear of sin and Love for God. When one has all the above three qualities he is fit to be an exemplary individual. When one has love for God, he will have fear of sin and will also be just in his thought, word and deed. To create love for God, these religions were originally created but the main aim has been diverted in the present day. Cant we live peacefully without fighting in the name of religion? Silence is better than arguing aimlessly. If all of us minded our own religion without blaming each other religion, this earth would turn into heaven. Religious fights have become the characteristic feature of todays life. Being citizens, we ought not to encourage such evil traits. A truly religious person is not one who fights for religion but the one who loves God of any religion, the true meaning of religion being Love for God. Education shouldnt promote religious differences. It should in fact soften the life of man. Education is needed not only for mind but for soul too. It is only then will the man realize he is not to fight in the name of religion because any religion is meant to unite the individual with the divine. We see some faults in the teachings of religion as some of the people interpreted them in their own ways. Some took it to their advantage and started creating conflicts for their selfish motives. Every individual is gifted with the power of discrimination. Cant we think for ourselves if the creation of conflicts in the name of Religion is for the welfare of the whole world or for their individual purposes? The love people have for Jesus, Allah, Ram, Buddha or any other God is the same but their paths are different according to their customs, the environment they are born and brought up and their cultural habits. Being human we tend to point out at the mistakes of other religions which are really not because we are not satisfied or confident of our own religion. It is not wrong in being religious. One has the freedom to forbid himself from worshipping different names and forms of God but he has absolutely no right to blame other religions. If we start doing it, our future generations also will learn this habit of blaming other religions and it goes on and on and this habitual chain never breaks up which ultimately leads to confusion and commotion in the living of humanity. Such mistakes or blunders will never be spared by the great one above who is a witness to all these religious fights. It is our responsibility to look after the welfare of all the religions. When so many people believe in the existence of their religious Gods how can we deny their existence? Teaching and practicality might differ but are not impossible. At the end of this article many of your minds might think if I really follow the above. I really dont blame other religions and though I am a Hindu I pray to Jesus, Allah and also Buddha. I sing their songs to my little child so that she gets habituated to their names and does not doubt their existence in the future. The only remedy to create religious harmony and spirituality is to teach and show our children not the forms of our religious God alone but that of others too. This way from their childhood they will have expansive knowledge and awareness of all the religions and their respective Gods and so they do not deny, fight or blame the existence of other religions and their Gods. Being spiritual is, being able to accept any religion or God. The more spiritual you are, the less difference you see. -Sharmila Sanka About the Author With pride that I have been blessed with a human form, I always craved to grab any opportunity in order to utilize this human birth to the fullest and at last I found the answer to my craving mind and it was no other than Spirituality. My little heart panged for the desire to quench my thirst of releasing the heaviness which resided inside of it since years. It hungered after the soul within asking to reveal more of life Materialistic and Spiritual in the form of Articles and Quotations which had the sole purpose of sharing it with other human beings not for name or fame but to tame this little mind towards the higher goal of Global Peace on this earth plane. Bacteriophages - The Dawning

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

By Michael Jozefiak Bacteriophages - Genesis. Like most discoveries, it happen quietly and without much fuss. A British chemist, E. H. Hankin, noticed that water from the sewage-infested Ganges & Jumma rivers seemed to be able to kill cholera bacteria. In 1915, simultaneous discoveries by British bacteriologist Frederick W. Tort and Felix d’Herelle, of the Pasteur Institute, Paris found that a ‘microbe’ found in the faeces of a dysentery patient could kill Shigella bacteria. He called this microbe a ‘bacteriophage’ from the Latin ‘phage’ meaning ‘to eat’, although until the advent of the electron microscope the method by which this phage destroyed bacteria was just speculation. Along with his colleagues at the Institute, they were the first to realise the therapeutic implications of this new discovery and in 1919 they set about treating a 12 year old boy, suffering with severe dysentery. First giving themselves a trial dose 100-times the planned dose, to check the preparation’s safety, they treated the boy, who made a full recovery in a few days. At the time, this must have seemed like a miracle! D’Herelle and his team travelled all over the world, setting up phage therapy trials by observing who recovered naturally from various diseases and isolating the phages to be grown on in labs. The initial enthusiasm was, forgive the pun, infectious! The American drug company Eli Lilly, amongs others who sensed a Gold Rush and wanted to be in the vanguard, became involved in the 1930s. However, the basic science was patchy and not enough was known about the therapeutic action; why did some people recover and others did not? Quality of preparations was poor, there were few controls or regard to testing phages for suitability to deal with a disease, or indeed if they were still alive before being administered! Due to its erratic performance, phage therapy was slated by the American Medical Association in 1934 and, with the discovery of the wonder-drug antibiotics, phage therapy fizzled out in the West to be replaced by antibiotics, which seemed infallible. Little did they know…. Phage work continued by Russians. Giorgi Eliava, a scientist from Georgia, worked with d’Herelle for 5 years and returned to his homneland to start a bacteriological research institute, with the blessing (and funding) of fellow Georgian, Joseph Stalin. D’Herelle himself left Yale University in 1933 to come and work in Georgia, much to the delight of the Soviets, who saw this as a political coup for the Soviet system against the expensive, capitalistic Western drug companies and their monopolistic patents. However, disaster struck the Institute when Eliava fell foul of Beria, boss of the dreaded KGB, who had him executed. Some say it was because Eliava went over Beria’s head when refused phage funding, others say it was because they shared a common love interest. We can never be sure - those were turbulent times and personal rivalries often resulted in imprisonment in the Gulags and almost certain death; the lucky ones were executed immediately after their “show” trial. Although the Institute foundered briefly, following Eliava’s death, it eventually recovered, due to the selfless work done by dedicated staff, on very little pay. They believed in what they were doing, continuing researching and producing phage tablets by the million, mainly for the Soviet army. The tablets overcame the practical limitations of the original fragile glass vials. During the Soviet period, money was no object at the Eliava Institute however, after 1996, when Gorbachev started ‘Peristroika’, funding dried up. The Georgians were on their own, having their own political problems to contend with; during the civil war in Abkhazia, Georgian soldiers carried sprays of phages for application to battlefield wounds, resulting in relatively few deaths by infection. The Glimmer of Hope… With the ever increasing resistance of bacteria to antibiotics, despite doctors having known about this as far back as the 1940s, the West started to search for alternatives; the hunted was fast becoming the hunter! When antibiotics attempt to kill resistant strains of bacteria, all that happens is that other non-resistant bacteria are killed, leaving the field clear for resistant types to thrive without competition. Friendly bacteria are killed, often resulting in a weakened immune system, resulting in more infection, resulting in more antibiotics, resulting in…….etc. The old stories of mysterious viruses which only, killed bacteria were re-investigated. People started to contact the Eliava Institute in Tbilisi, the capital city of Georgia where Felix d’Herelle had worked with Giorgi Eliava to develop phage therapy, wanting to know more. Some came with a genuine desire to help, others to plagiarise that knowledge and take advantage of the Georgians’ expertise, for free. Others however, like Fred Bledsoe of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and musician Alfred Gertler, had heard of the benefits of phage therapy and came simply to be cured of life threatening MRSA; something that doctors, using current medications, had not managed to do. The next step for them would have been amputation. It now just remains to be seen which government is prepared to swallow its pride, introduce new guidlines to encompass the unique way that phage therapy works, and actually do something now to alleviate the suffering of thousands of MRSA sufferers. Although more research is always needed, that is no excuse for not using the experience and knowledge gained by the Tbilisi experts. How much reinvention is enough? Someone with chronic, life-threathening MRSA will tell you the answer. Mike Jozefiak and colleagues Grace Filby (http://www.relax-well.co.uk) and Canadian microbiologist Bill Riedel are trying to promote awareness of a safe alternative to antibiotics, the Bacteriophage. http://www.deepwide.co.uk/bacteriophage.html Review the information and then please ask questions of your member of parliament as to why western governments have ignored 80 years empirical evidence of very successful phage therapy in the former Soviet Union. First Aid Supplies

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Richard_Romando] Richard Romando First aid treatments are very simple, life-saving medical practices that can and should be provided in various situations of dire emergency. Hence, the significance of providing effective first aid in case of injury is increasing. As a result, first aid kits have become an integral part of the daily household and office setup. Having a clear idea as to how to assemble the required resources in the first aid kit is essential. Timely administration of first aid can prevent a minor injury from developing into a severe one. There are a number of manufacturers and distributors in the present day market providing high quality first aid supplies. There are certain first aid supplies that should be contained in every kit. Sterile bandages of various shapes and sizes, antiseptic wipes to clean the injury before bandage is applied, gauze and medical tape, antibacterial ointment, painkiller such as aspirin, gloves, scissors, safety pins, and thermometer are some of the indispensable first aid supplies. Moreover, it is also essential to keep a list of the local emergency numbers and a first aid manual along with the vital first aid supplies. Medicines, antibiotic ointments, and burn creams which have expired are not only ineffective, but these first aid supplies can also be harmful when used in an emergency condition. A constant check on the first aid supplies, once in every three to six months or at least once a year, is necessary to make sure that the first aid supplies are still effective in treating injuries. Fat Loss Lie - Part 4

Saturday, April 19th, 2008

By Travis Liu Meal replacement products, powders, drinks and shakes help you to burn fat. Taking these supplements could be one of the worst mistakes you could ever do to your body and your metabolism. First, the calories you get from these supplements would be very deficient and causes your metabolism to spiral downward and towards the starvation mode. Second, many of these products are not properly formulated and loaded with junk such as refined sugar and syrup which is not what you need when trying to lose fat. Third, it is important to realize that even a well formulated drink do not contain any fat-burning properties that you cannot obtain from regular food. In fact, real food is far superior to any type of fat burning supplements because of the nutrients and fiber they contain and because of the whole foods effect on metabolism. Meal replacements are nothing more than convenience because eating frequently to get high protein from whole foods is a challenge. Eating real food is better than drinking shakes because then human gastrointestinal system has evolved to expect and efficiently digest whole food, not powders or pills. In fact, the process of digesting solid food every three hours actually increases your metabolic rate. This scientifically-proven process is known as the thermic effect of food or dietary thermogenesis. There are two components of the thermic effect. One is obligatory thermogenesis, which results from the energy required to digest, absorb and assimilate food nutrients. The second is facultative thermogenesis, which results from sympathetic nervous system activation from food ingestion and its stimulating effect on metabolism. The fat burning solution is to eat whole food as much as possible, eat small frequent meals throughout the day, and use meal replacements only for convenience. Combine these food strategies with exercise, and you will turn your body into a fat burning furnace. http://burn-the-fats.blogspot.com/2007/04/big-fat-lies-part-4.html Best regards, Travis Liu Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Travis_Liu http://EzineArticles.com/?Fat-Loss-Lie—Part-4&id=572365 cheap phentermine no rx phentermine without doctors prescription online prescription for phentermine buy phentermine without doctor approval

Motorola Razr V3 Review

Wednesday, April 16th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Mark_Hirst]Mark Hirst Since its release in 2004, the Motorola Razr V3 has become the fastest selling and most popular mobile phone in history, spawned a slew of imitators, and redefined the mobile phone as a style icon, rather than merely being a communications device. With its ultra skinny looks, and sleek buttonless metal finished keypad, the V3 hit the market like a rocket, and was soon the must have gadget indeed, it has since gone on to be named as one of the best gadgets of all time by the readers of PC World magazine, beating the Apple PowerBooks! What is perhaps most remarkable about the phone is that even now, 3 years on, the original phone remains one of the most popular handsets on the market, with annual sales still in their millions. The phone has spawned several new versions, including the popular Krazr design, and earlier this year, Motorola announced that a new version of the Razr would be released in 2007, and feature the great looks of the original coupled with a more modern interface, and additional features. The first generation V3, with its brushed aluminium finish, and large screen ushered in a new era for mobiles around the world, and when compared to the Razr, most other phones looked overweight and bulky. Over the last 3 years, a number of developments, such as a mega pixel camera have been added to the Razr in order to keep it up to date and competitive in a fast moving market, however, the styling has remained exactly the same, ensuring the ongoing popularity of the phone with consumers who want their gadgets to look amazing. The other models in the Motorola range that have had their designs based on the Razr have not managed to garner the same levels of popularity as their parent, but this is hardly surprising, as the Razr has become so iconic and ubiquitous that people want to own it rather than a look-alike. Other manufacturers such as Nokia and Samsung have aped the design of the Motorola Razr on a number of high end handsets, but for some reason, even though they may be slimmer, and more angular, they always seem to come off as a second best model, rather than managing to exceed the original. When the Razr 2 comes out later this year, with its all new functionality and added features, it is to be hoped that it manages to compete with the original model, and even exceed it, rather than becoming yet another also ran! Data Service Plans - Where Your Cell Phone and the Internet Meet

Friday, April 11th, 2008

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Christine_Peppler]Christine Peppler The history of the cell phone has seen an evolution from simple communication devices to the smartphones that are prevalent today. With these more advanced cousins of the original cell phone, internet capabilities such as text messaging and web browsing, audio and video playback, and the ability to sync up with a PC have been added to their work load. For busy consumers who want to increase their connectivity and productivity, a smartphone is an excellent option to provide the access and tools that are needed. Once the decision is made to move up to a smartphone however, purchasing a web enabled cell phone is only the first step in the process of getting started. Cell phones operate in conjunction with a voice plan from a cellular provider; when using such a device for internet related functions, the user must have a data plan to make the appropriate connection. When considering a data plan for a cell phone there are a number of details to consider: What functions will be used? Users need to carefully consider what functions they will be needing. Some data plans allow e-mail functions only, providing the benefit of a lower monthly cost. Other plans allow users to send and receive e-mail via their cell phone, access the internet, download games, music, video, sync with their PC to access various software applications, and perform a variety of other functions. Users also want to be sure they know what web access they will be allowed via their data plan. Some plans allow access to selected sites only while others provide unlimited access. Some data plans allow internet access via cell phone but not on a laptop when tethered to a cell phone acting as a modem. The data plan will need to match up with how the individual wishes to use the service. Is the coverage sufficient? Just as with a voice plan, users should check to assure that the coverage through the data plan will be sufficient for their location and in other locations where they will commonly need to access the service through their cell phone. In some instances, the quality or speed of the connection can vary from location to location. What is the cost of the data service plan? Cell phone owners are charged a monthly fee for their data plan. Users pay for data plans through either the amount of data used or the time spent on the service. Data use fees may be based on a predetermined amount of data transmitted and received over the course of a month or may be “unlimited”. Plans which charge a set fee for a prescribed amount of data transfer may be economical if use of the service is very limited and consists primarily of e-mails and text documents. However, in many instances, unlimited plans that set no limit on the number of megabytes used in a month are often a safer option. As an example, a plan with limited data transfer may allow 5MB per month but receiving a single MP3 music file could consume 3-4MB alone. Just as with voice plans, it is expensive to exceed the data plan limits; average $.06 per kilobyte. As mentioned above, rather than charging for the amount of data transfer, some cellular providers draw from voice plan minutes to cover time spent on the web. Individual users would need to carefully assess whether or not the consumption of additional voice time would be the best option for them. As cell phones have matured into the smartphones of today, millions of busy, time limited people are finding them increasingly indispensable. However, new users will need to learn the details of the various data plans to assure that their new web enabled cell phone can meet their expectations. Christine Peppler believes that consumers should not have to possess a technology degree to be able to use or select [http://www.homemedias.info]cell phone or related products. A Final Warning For the Luke Warm Christian

Thursday, April 10th, 2008

By Vivian Gordon All through my life, I always aspired to be above average. Whatever I put my mind to doing I wanted to be the best I could be. Whether it was my art work, which apparently was above average, but it never got me anywhere. I also took pride in being an above average photographer. I take some pretty awesome pictures but it never went any farther than just having an artistic eye. I decided to be a great scuba diver. I passed my written exams and my open water dives with ease. But I never would’ve dove without an experienced diver with me. So all the things I’ve ever accomplished in my life kind of fizzled out. Even my first marriage deteriorated after 25 years. But my walk with the Lord is the one thing I’m determined to stick with, grow stronger in and more knowledgable of each and every day. There is always something new to learn and so I have become an avid student of the Word. I don’t want to just “get by” on this one. This is the most important decision I will ever make. You also have the same choice to make. Jesus warns us about being luke warm. How will He see your walk with Him? Revelation chapter 3 talks about one of the seven churches that Christ addresses. This particular one is Laodicea. Geographically, this church sat in the valley between the mountains on either side. The water that ran down into it’s aquaducts from one mountain was cold spring water. On the other side, the water that ran down into the aqua ducts was hot spring water, and when it mixed it became luke warm. In spiritual terms, lukewarm means stagnant. It doesn’t flow and after sitting in stillness, it decays. This is the picture of the spiritual condition that Jesus was warning the Laodiceans about. If you’re hot or cold, that means at least your moving in some kind of direction and making some kind of progress.Lets’ see how Jesus brings their spiritual condition to their attention. “And to the angel (messenger) of the assembly (church) in Laodicea write: These are the words of the Amen, the trusty and faithful and true Witness, the Origin and Beginnning and Author of God’s creation.” Rev. 3:14 (Amplified) Christ is addressing this particular church and establishing Himself. The words of the Amen are the last and final words. He is the Beginning and the End of creation. He is the One true Witness Who can claim what He says to be true in every respect. These are His titles, and that settles everything. Now He continues to say this: “I know your [record of] works and what you are doing; you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were cold or hot!” Rev. 3:15 (Amplified) He was saying that they had just stood still in their spiritual walk. Their duties to God were stagnant. No longer were they on fire for Him. They lost their focus on the true meaning of their relationship with their God. They only cared how they looked from the outside. Do you know of any Christians like this today? Tell them about God’s warning if they have lost their perspective on their spiritual journey and meaning of their relationship in Christ. “So, because you are lukewarm and neither cold nor hot, I will spew you out of My mouth!” Rev. 3:16 (Amplified) Jesus is not mixing words to help people manage their sins, He is telling them just like it is. In other words, He is telling them, they literally make Him sick to His stomach and He will vomit them out. I just can’t bare the thought of leaving a putrid taste in my Lord’s mouth. What had they done that was so horrible? “For you say, I am rich; I have prospered and grow wealthy and I am in need of nothing; and you do not realize and understand that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked.” Rev. 3:17 (Amplified) Many Christians today think of themselves as being better than others. They are so successful that they don’t need anything, including God! They just don’t understand that everything depends and relies upon God. He doesn’t just bless rich people. He blesses all people and they become rich in spirit. People who flaunt their wealth are considered to be poor and wretched, and blind (to the truth) and naked because they have no spirtual covering. All their clothes are spotted and covered in sin, no matter how many times they were washed. “Therefore I counsel you to purchase from Me gold refined and tested by fire, that you may be [truly] wealthy, and white clothes to clothe you and to keep the shame of your nudity from being seen, and salve to put on your eyes, that you may see.” Rev. 3:18 (Amplified) Jesus is telling them to stop shopping at the wrong stores. The world tries to sell us the best, but it’s nothing but cheap imitations at best. God doesn’t give us cheap knock-offs. The refined gold is our times through the fire. When we have baked long enough we will reflect God’s glory in our lives. Our true wealth is our salvation, we become washed white as snow. Remember Christ is returning for His Bride without spot, blemish or wrinkle. This is only accomplished through Him. He will cover us with God’s Spirit of Truth, Righteousness, Glory, Holiness and Grace. We will no longer be exposed to the things of this world and contaminated by it. His living Word will allow us to see ourselves as God sees us. Ask yourself this question, “How does God see you right now?” “Those whom I [dearly and tenderly] love, I tell their faults and convict and convince and reprove and chasten [I discipline and instruct them]. So be enthusiastic and in earnest and burning with zeal and repent [changing your mind and attitude].” Rev. 3:19 (Amplified) If Jesus didn’t love us so much He wouldn’t bother telling us these things which are for our own good. First He convicts us. The Holy Spirit within us will let us know we are grieving Him convince us to repent. He corrects us like any good parent would do. We should come to the throne of grace with such gratitude that we can be forgiven. How do we know that we need to be forgiven? Christ says it like this: “Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears and listens to and heeds My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and will eat with him, and he [will eat] with Me.” Rev. 3:20 (Amplified) First of all, if someone is standing outside knocking, it means they want to come in. If Jesus isn’t already dining with you then He is asking if He can. If you hear Him knocking at your door, He will come into your heart when you tell Him you have sinned and ask to be forgiven. When you make Him Lord and Savior over your life you will never find yourself dining alone. This is being a victorious Christian. “He who overcomes (is victorious), I will grant him to sit beside Me on My throne, as I Myself overcame (was victorious) and sat down beside My Father on His throne.” Rev. 3:21 (Amplified) Just think, receiving Christ will make us kings among men. We are God’s heirs, entitled to all His riches in Christ Jesus. We will lack for nothing. “He who is able to hear, let him listen to and heed what the [Holy] Spirit says to the assemblies of the church.” Rev. 3:22 (Amplified) So in hearing what Christ is saying to us, we must also be listening as well. Knock, knock. Who’s there? Me, Jesus. Can I come in? The answer is up to you. Managing Anxiety and Depression

Monday, April 7th, 2008

By Dr. Daniel Baney If you have ever experienced a panic attack, or, an episode of clinical depression - you could hardly be faulted for wanting and seeking a final and everlasting “cure.” Some people who experience these conditions never have a reoccurrence. For others, anxiety and depression are persistent intruders in their lives. Why the difference? Likely, genetics predispose some of us to anxiety or depressive reactions as a response to situational stressors in our life. But that does NOT mean any of us are entirely helpless. Depression and anxiety are most often manageable. Powerlessness: Beliefs, Behaviors, & Feelings A key component to anxiety and depression are feelings of powerlessness. Perhaps some life stressor or loss has temporarily overwhelmed or discouraged you. Or, perhaps over time you have developed ineffective cognitive habits - styles of thinking - that promote your giving up power. These “distorted beliefs” lead us to have “distorted feelings” and “distorted behaviors”. For example: Suzy Somebody held and reinforced over time the distorted belief that “No one would be interested in someone like me.” This distorted and powerless belief led her to behave by isolating herself from others. Her isolative behavior and belief that no one was interested in her, led to predictable feelings of loneliness. Then, looking at how lonely she felt and isolated she behaved - she reinforced the powerless belief that, sure enough, “See there! I told you no one was interested in someone like me!” And the spiraling cycle of powerlessness was complete and reinforcing. It is much easier to change the way we think and behave than how we feel. The good news is, if we can change the way we think (correcting distorted thinking) and behave (powerless behaviors), then most often what we get is a resultant change in how we feel (for the better!). This is why cognitive-behavioral therapy is the treatment of choice for anxiety and depression and why empowering clients is so important. People often think of depression or anxiety as a function of low self-esteem. Actually and more precisely, depression and anxiety are made worse by low self-efficacy. What is self-efficacy? Self-efficacy is the belief that I have a sufficient measure of control and power over my life. Cognitive behavioral therapy is an important tool in identifying ways we might be lowering our sense of self-efficacy, giving up power and control, and thereby encountering depression and anxiety as a persistent companion in our lives. Tools for Managing Depression & Anxiety Fortunately, we have many tools at our disposal for managing anxiety and depression. These include:Medications which help treat the biological basis of depression.Cognitive Behavioral Therapy - changing the way we think and behave in order to increase our self-efficacy.Building supportive social networks of friends and activities.Increasing self-care habits to help us weather the storms of life.
